No. 156: Red Wine-Blueberry-Peach Sangria

Summer is here. The perfect time for fruit inspired cocktails.

When you're entertaining a large group, it's tough to make individual cocktails at an efficient pace. Especially when everyone arrives all at once.

With a gathering of friends planned for our Saturday, we needed a handy and refreshing drink that we could make ahead and pull out as everyone wanted it. A sweet sangria was the perfect fit.

1 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup simple syrup
1 bottle dry and fruity red wine*
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1/4 cup brandy
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 peach, pitted and thinly sliced

*We used Pinot Noir

To make

Prepare the simple syrup. Combine one cup sugar into one cup water in a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves. Let cool.

Combine the blueberries and simple syrup in a pitcher and lightly muddle them with a potato masher or muddler. Add the wine, Triple Sec, brandy, and orange and peach slices.

Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours.

The results

This sangria is fantastic. Sweet, balanced and perfectly refreshing. I loved it from the first sip.

If you aren't a fan of sweet sangria, you can reduce the sugar by half and let the fruit do all the work. But I must say, we loved this as it was.

Here's to a new summer favorite along with our blueberry mojitos!
