It's that time of year. The season when sniffles, colds and sometimes something worse will take you down faster than you can say, "I got my flu shot." The season when all you want is a nice hot cup of something that will cure your aches and ills.
Turmeric & Ginger
I'm always looking for little home remedies that perk you back up, and am a devotee of hot water with lemon when I don't feel well.
I had heard about the healing properties of turmeric, so I thought I'd try this little tea concoction out for when I might need a soothing, spicy drink.
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger*
Splash of milk
Honey or maple syrup, to taste
*I used ginger paste since I had it handy.
In a small saucepan, bring water to boil. Add turmeric and ginger, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in milk and pour (strain tea if using ground ginger) into a cup. Add sweetener to taste.
I am not at all sick, but this was so soothing.
The simmer time is important so all the elements come fully together. Lemon would be a nice add-in as well.

I learned at Chopra Center the high value Indian moms place on this spice. One drink that is served every morning is warm milk with a teaspoon of turmeric.
